History

Established in 1966 by a group of enthusiastic local tennis players, the Bundoora Tennis Club (BTC) was officially opened in 1967 by Harry Hopman and Earl Sieler. In those early years tennis was often played from other local venues whilst the BTC facilities were being developed. Finally by the mid-eighties BTC reached the eight court complex that it is today.

Fast forward to the present and BTC is one of the largest tennis facilities in the Banyule City Council, now with floodlit courts (4 porous, 2 plexicushion and 2 synthetic grass), large open grounds, outdoor pavilion and club room with accessible toilets and shower. BTC promotes health and well-being through direct involvement in tennis, catering for both competition and social play. We are the only club in the north-eastern region that provides a complete pathway for players from ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Leagues, right through to Tennis Victoria’s Premier League. We do this in partnership with our club coach John Hampson (Gripping Potential, Level 3 High Performance Coach) and his team, who implement a range of Tennis Australia/Victoria programs and offer the best player development pathway possible for players of all ages and abilities.

The BTC is particularly proud of its vibrant and diverse committee. Of course, numerous members have selflessly given their time to the club over the years, attending committees and maintaining the courts and grounds. In fact we have many second and third generation families playing at the courts and we are proud of the many hundreds, indeed thousands of players, young and old, who have played tennis at our club.

If playing tennis interests you, we are always very excited to welcome new members to our great club, so please get in contact with us and come along for a hit!
